What is Chlamydia

It is bacterial infection of the genital tract. Infection with Chlamydia is most common found among the following groups –

  • Young adults (24 years and younger
  • People living in urban areas
  • Those with lower social and economic status
What are the Symptoms of Chlamydia?

In Men: in men symptoms of Chlamydia could involve a burning sensation while urinating, discharge from the penis, rectal discharge or pain and testicular tenderness and pain symptoms occur in men is similar to gonorrhea. 

In Women- As for women, symptoms of Chlamydia include vaginal discharge, salpingitis, and burning sensation during urination, rectal discharge, painful sexual intercourse and liver inflammation equal to hepatitis. 

Causes of chlamydia

  • By having unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who is infected.
  • From her mother to her baby during vaginal childbirth.
  • By transferring the infection on fingers from the genitals to the eyes although it is rare for this to happen.
Diagnosis of Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is an infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia Trachomatis.

Chlamydia can be easily diagnose by laboratory investigation and clinical assessment - It is always better to get it diagnosed in the early stage of infection by serological blood test or doing the culture for chlamydia.

What are the Medications and Treatments available for Chlamydia?

Doctor may prescribe a single-dose-antibiotic, taken as a pill .On the other hand, thedoctormay choose an antibiotic, such as deoxycycline to be taken as a pill twice a day for a week. In most cases, the infection resolves within one to two weeks during that time you should abstain from sex. Your sexual partner or partners also may get treatment, even though they may not have signs or symptoms. Otherwise the infection can be passed back and forth
